12 Day Treasures of Spain Tour

Small Group Tour of Spain
& Her Great Cities

Slow Travel through Spain with Time to Truly Enjoy the Journey, coupled with Story Exclusives®

Story Land & Sea®'s Amazing Spain Tour features wild and beautiful landscapes, amazing villages and cities along with incredible finds of the Roman Empire. Imagine a church built inside a Muslim palace - and an amazing baroque cathedral that is still in production after 135 plus years - Spain boasts a dazzling blend of civilization, culture and color. This small group itinerary is a treasure chest of cultural jewels that stretch across a wide palette.

Unique Itinerary
Every day is unique. It's all about the colorful life! We'll see fiery flamenco bailaors swirl in flounces of red, wind along emerald green mountains that seem to tumble into the wild blue Atlantic, and stroll through whitewashed villages huddled under 500-year old red-tiled roofs. Spain seems to be a country that has a thousand different countries within. Wherever you look, Roman arches and Arab filigree meet, creating a colorful, eclectic mash of centuries. The Spanish put their heart and soul into everything they do. They may be the world's most sociable people. Meals are celebrations. Art is passionate. The sun is hot. And the flamenco from Spain is very cool.

Treasures of Spain Tour Begins in Madrid

Day 0: May We Recommend...One Day Early Arrival?
Consider making today your departure date from North America to arrive Madrid on "Day 1," the traditional flight date. The Treasures of Spain Tour commences on Day 2 of the itinerary.

In this scenario you will arrive one day early and optionally may take in the Excursion to Toledo.

Enjoy Toledo and arrive one day early:
Opt for a pre-tour arrival into Madrid and enjoy an included tour of Toledo.

On this day, you will experience our adventure through Toledo. We travel from Madrid to Toledo for the day and return in the mid afternoon for the balance of your day at leisure.

TOLEDO EXPERIENCE
It's a comprehensive look at Spain's past when Arabs, Jews and Christians all lived and worked side by side. Toledo is one of the Spanish cities with the greatest wealth of monuments. Known as the “city of the three cultures,” because Christians, Arabs and Jews lived together there for centuries, behind its walls.

CATHEDRAL OF TOLEDO
Construction of the edifice began in 1227 under the reign of King Ferdinand the Saint on the site of a mosque. The design has French influences and was initiated under the first architect was a man with the surname Martín. Toledo preserves an artistic and cultural legacy in the form of churches, palaces, fortresses, mosques and synagogues.

We return to Madrid in the late afternoon.

Bound for Madrid

Day 1: Trans-Atlantic flight to Europe.

Depart Your Home Airport on your Transatlantic flight to Madrid.
Your international flight is not included. Inquire for special fare and service from our Air Service department.

NOTE: Please Note: "Day 1" is the published tour date and is the date you will arrange your air travel to depart your home airport. Your Small Group Tour will commence on Itinerary Day 2 upon arrival in Madrid, Spain.

Can we help you with your Airfare? Yes, we can arrange your air travel from the Story Land & Sea®  air department. We'll work with you to get the absolutely lowest fare available based on your travel preferences. We utilize both our own air department and online agencies to find the best rate. At the end of the tour you should set your flight to return from Madrid (MAD). Or if you are extending to Barcelona, then you should set your flight to return from there (BCN).

Remember, airfare is a completely separate arrangement from your land tour. It is your responsibility to arrive at the point of tour origination (Madrid, Spain) on time regardless of whether Story Land & Sea® has arranged your air.

May we suggest? How about flying in one day early to add the Prado and a pre-tour overnight to recover from your Transatlantic flight?

Travel Protection
Story Land and Sea® recommends that you purchase a travel protection plan to help protect you and your travel investment against the unexpected. A Protection Plan can include coverage for Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption, Emergency Medical and Emergency Evacuation/Repatriation, Trip Delay, Baggage Delay and more.

Day 5: Cordoba

Guided Tour Cordoba in Depth
After a wonderful breakfast at the Palacio we will meet our Story Local Guide and step out for our immersion tour of Cordoba. This walking tour will feature a look at the Roman Temple of Cordoba as we make our way into the heart of this beautiful city. We will pass through the most central square of the city, TendillasIts symbol is, without a doubt, the equestrian statue of the Great Captain located on the middle of the square. We also must mention the huge clock that sounds every hour, but have you noticed how it sounds? It is not the typical clock sound you’re used to, but the sound of a flamenco guitar. We will make sure to walk through the Jewish quarter which was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1984. The highlight of todays tour will be our guided visit to the Mezquita.

The Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba is the most important monument of all the Western Islamic world, and one of the most amazing in the world. The evolution of the “Omeya” style in Spain is resumed in the history of the Mosque of Cordoba, as well as other styles such as the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque of the Christian architecture.
