Story Way®: The Well-Dressed Adventurer
Small Group Tour Attire
For every Story Land & Sea® Adventure you will find a unique approach to packing and our ‘what to wear’ tips will hopefully enhance your experience. We’re not about stuffy, big group traditional tour culture but we are all about the modern traveler and what makes for a great experience.
Italy & the European Continent
Generally speaking the average European on their day-to-day trek features a more dressy approach to attire than most Americans. Don’t confuse this with dressing “business style” however, for the ladies imagine a dressy top with nice jeans (dark colors seem preferred in Europe).
Season also dictates changes: warmer months think cottons that breathe and linens, while shoulder season requires more layers. Shoulder season can also mean rain showers so consider raincoat and proper footware. And comfortable walking shoes are a must (don't buy new shoes just before your trip).
Dining at Night in Europe
For the Story Way® welcome and farewell dinners we recommend comfortable slacks and a polo shirt for men (we dress just a bit more for our farewell dinner); slacks or skirt and a blouse, or a casual dress (summer dress in warm months) for ladies. Should you decide to dine on your own at a Michelin® starred venue (on land) then we might recommend a jacket and tie for the gents.
Are you heading out on Story Africa®’s Kenya Safari or Tanzania & the Serengeti Safari?
It depends on the time of year you’re traveling but we have some great recommendations for our preferred time (late July and August). During this season in Kenya and Tanzania Tsetse flies are non-existent generally (weather patterns can affect this of course so ‘be prepared’ is our mantra). So, with this said, shorts are okay but have some long pants to stay warm at night and to keep possible bugs away (again, we don’t find a lot during this part of the year). Silk scarfs for the ladies and a button down shirt (safari style of course) dresses things up a bit for our incredible evening dining experiences. A fleece and extra layers are perfect for chillier mornings and warm sunny days.
Generally we recommend wearing earth-tone colors and having a bandana while taking advantage of the camp laundry services.
Story Ships® - Riverboat Cruising
We want you to be comfortable and also culturally relevant so a refined casual is perfect aboard the riverboat and for sightseeing. For the Story Way® welcome and farewell dinners we recommend something like comfortable slacks and a polo shirt for men; slacks or skirt and a blouse, or a casual dress for ladies. Should you decide to dine on your own at a Michelin® starred venue (on land) then we might recommend a jacket and tie for the gents.
Story Ships® - Ocean Cruising
For our luxury motor and sailing yachts, the same rules for Riverboats applies however be prepared for beach and wet landings (good footwear that can be submerged!). Flip flops for these landings are not a good option.
With Story Land & Sea, the possibilities are endless and the options - always open!
