From Lisbon, to Evora, Obidos, the Douro Valley region, and Porto, we see and experience the life and culture of this country, which is among the 20 most visited countries in the world. Portugal seems to be a country that has a thousand different countries within. Wherever you look, Roman arches and Moorish influences meet, creating a colorful, eclectic mesh of centuries. The Portuguese are a friendly people and passionate about whatever they do. Visitors will find a wealth of cultural and gastronomic experiences. Sun and beaches are abundant, meals are diverse. The Fado is renowned, and the art historically rich. And so will be your memories of Portugal and her people. .

The city is highlighted with pinks, yellows, aquas and limes. While most of Lisbon was destroyed in the 18th century, it still is that cobbled city of your imagination.

Our local, professional guide will join you today and present the most important sights:
Baxia Quarter, Pombal Statue, Avenida da Liberdade, the Alfama District with its “earthquake proof” structures (famed for surviving the 1755 earthquake), the Monument to the Discoveries, Belem Tower which guards the mouth of the Tagus, and the Monesterio de Jeronimos, featuring a fine example of Manuline architecture, are a few of the wonderful sights we will take in during this day of “Discovery."

Welcome to Portugal Dinner: We will walk the lively streets of Lisbon as we head to a truly unique Portugese dinner in this wonderful district of Lisbon.

Day 3: Full Day Tour of Lisbon
Spend a Full Day Discovering the Magic of Lisbon & the Surrounding Countryside.

In the morning, meet your local guide in your hotel lobby for a full day professionally guided tour of Sintra,

Sintra Palace

Cascais, Belem and Lisbon. After breakfast we will begin our tour by making our way into the misty Sierra mountains for a visit to the enchanting town of Sintra, home to ancient castles, fairy tale palaces and verdant gardens. Starting our visit with a privately guided tour of the ”National Palace of Sintra”. Lavishly decorated rooms, beautiful hand painted ceilings and decorative tiles will enhance the mystery of this outstanding Palace, the best preserved Royal Palace in Portugal and a UNESCO World Heritage sight. Time permitting, admission to Jeronimos Monestery is included.

Afterwards there will be a little time to browse the narrow streets of the old town, with its boutique shops, local handicrafts and world renowned pastry shops. Departing the hills of Sintra, we’ll take in the spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean as we travel along the Portuguese coast, making our way to the lovely marina town of Cascais, were we’ll take time for lunch and shopping.

Then it’s back to Lisbon, arriving with spectacular views from the south, just as the great explorers of Portugal would have experienced.

Day 4: Evora Tour Day with Winery Tour Tasting and Lunch.

Evora, Portugal

This morning we will set out for a day in the Alentejos. Évora is the capital of Portugal's south-central Alentejo region. In the city's historic center stands the ancient Roman Temple of Évora (also called the Temple of Diana). Nearby, whitewashed houses surround the Cathedral of Évora, a massive Gothic structure begun in the 12th century. The Igreja de São Francisco features Gothic and baroque architecture along with the skeleton-adorned Chapel of Bones. We will see all the sights and have time for a little time to shop for amazing cork products before heading to a wonderful Alentejos winery for a tour and tasting with lunch.

Day 5: Obidos, Coimbra University & Mealhada.

Obidos, Portugal

After the included breakfast, meet your Tour Captain in the lobby to transfer to the walled city of Óbidos’. The gorgeous historic centre is a labyrinth of cobblestoned streets and flower-bedecked, whitewashed houses livened up with dashes of vivid yellow and blue paint. Continuing on we will make a stop in Coimbra to visit a truly spectacular University Library before heading to Mealhada for the night.

Included Dinner The Royal Dining Hall: The beautiful restaurant, former royal banquet hall that once host historic banquets, decorated with ten huge paintings of Camões´Os Lusiadas’, depicting scenes of Vasco da Gama's voyage to India, and under a magnificent Moorish ceiling, you will indulge with fine modern Portuguese terroir cuisine mastered by prominent Chef Dionísio Ferreira, who proposes a most authentic and creative gastronomical tour of the best local flavors.


Day 6: Douro River Valley with Mateus Palace tour.

After a leisurely breakfast we will travel north to the spectacular Douro River Valley.

Today includes a Mateus Palace Tour and a Quinto do Portal winery visit with lunch,

Day 7: Morning at leisure and Private afternoon boat on the Douro River

This morning you can have a wonderfully relaxing breakfast. In the early afternoon we will travel along this most scenic river to gain a different perspective of the Douro Valley. Returning mid afternoon the balance of the day is at leisure.

Day 8: Amarante, Guimaraes to Porto

Porto, Portugal

After breakfast we set out for our final destination of Porto. We will make stops in the picturesque town of Amarante for some delightful pastries before continuing on to Guimaraes. The historic town of Guimarães is associated with the emergence of the Portuguese national identity in the 12th century. An exceptionally well-preserved and authentic example of the evolution of a medieval settlement into a modern town, its rich building typology exemplifies the specific development of Portuguese architecture from the 15th to 19th century through the consistent use of traditional building materials and techniques. We will have time to walk around, see the sights and have lunch before continuing on to Porto. The Tour Captain will take you on a magical walkabout through the streets of Porto.

Welcome to Porto Dinner: We dine in a truly unique Porto restaurant tonight.


Day 9: Porto Immersion Day

Giving its name to port wine, Porto’s well-known export, we intertwine the city’s historic sights with its many wineries. Sightseeing with a local guide includes the colorful market of Bolhão; Livraria Lello, one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world. The Afternoon is your for further exploration of Porto.

Portugal Farewell Reception and Dinner: We will set off for a wonderful dinner in the historic old town overlooking the Douro River.

 

Day 10: Departure Day

Private Vehicle Transfers from Your Hotel to the Porto airport for flights home.

Within 90 days you will begin receiving penalties per the terms of the Tour Application should you have to cancel.
