Treasures of France
The Story of Paris, Provence with Avignon, Saint Rémy & Les Beaux

"Having just completed this itinerary in May, I am in love with it. Our Treasures of France Tour is exceptional and features truly unique experiences like dinner at Paris's Le Grand Colbert, Story's unique perspective experiences in petite bistros complete with caviar and champagne. Avignon and Provence moved me so deeply I ache to return! I extended to the hill top villages of St. Paul de Vence and Eze...I am left speechless. And the glitz of Monte Carlo with the perfect visit to the Monaco principality."

Below enjoy a video of one of our recent Treasures of France Tours. Oui!

"unspeakably imposing, and nothing could well be more Roman."
—  Novelist Henry James, 1884

Day 6: Day at Leisure

Might we suggest this outstanding sightseeing experience?

Consider our optional tour of PONT-DU-GARD and CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE - $189 PER PERSON
After breakfast, consider joining us to one of the most well-preserved aqueduct "bridges" in the entire world. Pont du Gard, crosses the Gardon River near the village of Vers-Pont-du-Gard. It is part of the 31 mile Nimes aqueduct which was constructed during the first century AD to carry water from a spring near Uzes to the Roman colony of Nemausus (Nimes).

After the collapse of the Roman Empire the aqueduct fell into disuse but remained largely intact due to its important location serving as a toll bridge. This true treasure of France is a picturesque and enduring symbol of the strength the Roman Empire had throughout the world.

CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE

Begin your journey into Chateauneuf-du-Pape located just north of Avignon for an exploration of this beautiful region. It is located in the Vaucluse "department" in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Chateauneuf-du-Pape is both a village and an area of land that features a ruined medieval castle set atop the village. The castle was built in the 14th century for Pope John XXII, the second of the popes who resided in Avignon. The commune is famous for the production of red wine and almost all the cultivable land is planted with grapevines.

We have selected one of the most visually stunning wine estates in the region for our wine tasting experience today. Enjoy an in-depth visit to our winery estate for a tour of the production facilities and cellars, followed by a delightful wine-tasting paired with perfect morsels for lunch. Our lunch features palate-pleasing appetizers paired with the delicious varietals of wine.

ABOUT THE WINERY ESTATE

Our vineyard of choice in Chateauneuf-du-Pape features 13 varieties planted and is one of the largest vineyards in the region. The oldest portion of the estate dates from around 1560. The grounds of the estate are a feast for your eyes while what they produce is a delight for your palate.

There are many options and activities in Avignon and Provence to consider today, inquire with Story.

Enjoy an optional dinner tonight with the Tour Captain in Avignon or explore at leisure.

Les Beaux-de-Provence

Day 7: Treasure of France: Wine, Chocolate & Popes

City: Les Beaux de Provence
Region: Provence-Alpes-Cõte d'Azur

The Story today is all about this quaint village in Provence.

The village of Les Beaux de Provence is the epitome of spectacular scenery. Located south of Avignon on a rocky outcrop in the middle of the Alpilles mountain range, the village boasts a spectacular view of the valley. The ruin of a castle makes up much of the village, and with a population of around 400 the village is filled with more picturesque ruins of houses. The castle ruins provide a great opportunity to see the enormous siege engine demonstrations including a trebuchet.

We return to Avignon in the afternoon for time at your leisure.

Story Exclusive®: Tonight enjoy our special and included farewell to Avignon dinner which features an exclusive culinary dining experience in the heart of Provence. We enjoy great wine and dining while we learn some of the chef's secrets in our Story Exclusive® culinary experience.

Don't like to cook? No worries, just sit back with wine in hand, relax and enjoy the fruit of the labor!
Note: Tonight's special dining experience may be moved to one of the other evenings.

Region: Provence-Alpes-Cõte d'Azur
Paris
On our way to the Cote d'Azur we venture to the village of St. Paul de Vence

This morning we board our vehicle bound for the Cote d' Azur but first we enjoy one of the oldest medieval villages on the French Riviera, St. Paul de Vence.

Then we explore the village of Eze.

Tthe village of Eze in the Alpes-Maritimes was first populated around the year 2000BC as a community situated near Mount Bastide. The earliest occurrence of the name Èze was found in the maritime books of Antonin as a bay called the St. Laurent of Èze. A hoard of ancient Greek silver phialae dating from the 3rd Century BC was discovered in Èze in the late nineteenth century and is now featured at the British Museum.

Eze the Eagle's Nest

The area around Eze was subsequently occupied by the Romans but also the Moors who held the area for approximately 80 years until they were driven out by William of Provence in 973. By 1388 Èze fell under the jurisdiction of the House of Savoy, who built up the town as a fortified stronghold because of its proximity to Nice and other key ports.

Excquisite views from Eze

In April of 1860 Eze was designated as part of France by unanimous decision by its inhabitants. Èze has been described as an eagle's nest because of its prime location on a cliff set some 1,401 feet above sea level. Great restaurants and shoppes abound including at least two Michelin starred venues.

And then it's Monte Carlo...

Monte Carlo in Monaco

We return to Monte Carlo for a free evening.
