Day 1: DEPART NORTH AMERICA ON YOUR OVERNIGHT FLIGHT

Depart Your Home Airport on your Trans-Atlantic flight to Krakow (arriving Day 2) ~ the flight is not included, but please inquire for special fares with our Air Service.

Remember, airfare is a completely separate arrangement from your land tour. It is your responsibility to arrive at the point of tour origination (Krakow) on time regardless of whether Story Land & Sea® has arranged your air.

UNESCO World Heritage Site: Auschwitz-Birkenau Experience
This is a special tour of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial from Kraków with private round-trip transportation.

Travel from Kraków to the former Nazi concentration and extermination camp in a private car with a driver. You will see the original features of the camps and personal possessions of deceased prisoners in the museum. You will also be able to visit Kazimierz, Kraków's Jewish Quarter, on the journey back to your accommodation. Entrance fees and refreshments included. Private chauffeur pickup from your hotel.

The Story of Krakow: Historic Krakow Panoramic Tour
Today join our local expert Story Guide for a walking tour of Krakow including Wawel Hill on the banks of the Vistula River. We will see Wawel Castle, the seat of Polish kings from the 11th to 17th centuries, and enjoy an inside visit of the iconic Wawel Cathedral, Poland's national sanctuary and historic royal coronation site. We'll also learn about Krakow's Jewish Ghetto and its history and the modern renewal of the area.

In the afternoon, you will enjoy "Cracow" at leisure. Perhaps an optional excursion is in order:

Salt Mine Private Tour
This tour provides a private round-trip experience.

Your experience will visit the magnificent chambers, of this continuously functioning mining site since the middle ages, chiseled out in rock salt. See the amazing underground saline lakes, and majestic timber constructions along with unique statues sculpted in salt. There are nearly 2 miles of meandering corridors along with 800 steps (of which 350 have to be descended to reach the depth of 443 feet underground), then return to the surface via elevator. The half-day tour begins and ends in Krakow.

Destination to Salt Mine is about 30 minutes.

The Story of Vienna: Sightseeing Immersion tour of Vienna
You will learn of the incredible history of the Austro-Hungarian Empire while we are immersed into all things Viennese. Vienna, which has long been an important cultural and artistic center, has attracted musicians like Haydn, Mozart and Strauss. Great art collections from the old Flemish masters to Klimt and the Expressionists are all found here.

The Habsburgs were the dominant force in Vienna and their relationship with the masters of music and the development through history intrigues. We will also see Vienna State Opera House, and St. Stephan’s Cathedral in the heart of the old city.

Today we meet our local expert Story Guide for a driving and walking tour of the city that will include on the Pest side of the Vistula:

Then on the Buda side we will enjoy:

• Walking exploration including Castle Hill, A UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring Gothic arches, eighteenth-century Baroque houses and cobblestone streets.

•  Matthias Church (Mátyás templom) - walking
•  Fishermen’s Bastion (Halászbástya) - walking

Connected by Széchenyi Chain Bridge, Pest is located on the eastern side of the Danube. The name Pest comes from a Slavic word meaning furnace or oven most likely in reference to a local cave where fire burned.

Tonight for dinner you may explore on your own, however, the Tour Captain will invite you to join them to a special restaurant for a unique dining experience.

Day 10: BUDAPEST: DAY AT LEISURE

Today enjoy a day at leisure with several options to consider, all based on season and availability at time of booking.

Budapest Szechenyi Spa Entrance with VIP Massage
• Visiting Budapest is not complete without bathing in one of its world-famous thermal spring spas. Budapest Parliament House Tour 
• We will soak in the beauty of this architectural wonder on a night cruise on the Danube (this is different from the Story Danube cruise on Day 4), but for those who want to experience it you may optionally enjoy this 90-minute tour. The architectural jewel of Budapest, the Hungarian Parliament Building, is home to the Holy Crown of Hungary. You will get to explore its impressive interior, including stops in the Session Room, the Great Vaulted Hall and at the central staircase. Soak up the history behind the walls of Hungary’s largest building as your guide provides historical and anecdotal commentary. $29 per person, inquire for reservations.

Big Bus Budapest Hop-On Hop-Off Tour
• Experience 360-degree views of Budapest as you travel aboard an open-top, double-decker Big Bus. Audio commentary is available as you pass through the rich history of the city’s streets. The 48-Hour sightseeing tour includes a Danube River cruise, an evening bus ride and two walking tours. With the 24-Hour ticket it is possible to enjoy the bus tour for 24 hours and join the panoramic evening bus ride. Valid for 48 or 24 hours, this ticket allows you to hop on and off at any of the 27 stops offered throughout Budapest while also enjoying the additional activities. $19 per person.

Hungarian State Folk Ensemble Performance
• On our last night in Budapest, perhaps you would enjoy experiencing the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble. Commences at 8:00PM. 
The world famous Hungarian State Folk Ensemble will be performing one show at the Danube Palace (not far from our hotel). The show runs approximately 90 minutes with an intermission. The group performance is based on the tradition of century old gypsy folklore and music. Great reviews. The Danube Palace is a beautiful venue. This is the only performance by this ensemble for the two free nights you will have in Budapest. $55 per person.
